Swedish .se domains - priority applications close April 9

The criteria to register .se Swedish domain names is soon to be relaxed, such that:
1. There is no longer a restriction on the type of entity eligible for .se domains
2. The domain name no longer needs to correspond to the name of the registrant
3. There is no restriction on the number of .se domains that can be registered to a single entity
4. Registration is no longer restricted to Swedish entities

This means that, as with other ccTLD's that have recently been opened up, Swedish domain names will now become available to anyone in the world.

The equivalent of a sunrise period is being offered, to provide priority registration to owners of Swedish trademarks and those who have previously registered .se domain names at the third level (eg. .brand.se, .press.se, .tm.se).

Priority applications need to be submitted by April 9, 2003.

If you are a corporate client with Swedish trademarks you want to register, please contact your NetNames account manager to arrange an application.

The registry will be going live to the rest of the world on April 28th, with domains available on a first come first served basis.

Domain Renewal/Transfer scam

We would like to remind readers that a company calling itself Domain Registry of America is continuing to send unsolicited letters to domain name owners alerting them to domains that need to be renewed. Although it looks like a renewal letter, it is actually an attempt to get companies to transfer these domains to the Domain Registry of America.

NetNames advises clients to ignore these letters. If you have any questions regarding your renewals, please feel free to contact NetNames.
