Update on new .es domains
As mentioned last week in N3 lite, the Spanish Registry will soon
be launching the following five new second level domains under the
.es suffix:
.com.es
.org.es
.nom.es
.gob.es
.edu.es
Existing owners of .es domains will be receiving an email from
the Spanish Registry (ESNIC), on July 8th. This email will contain
a username and password, which is required in order to apply for
a priority registration for .com.es, .nom.es. and org.es
If you are an existing owner of a .es domain, it is important you
ensure your contact email address is up to date at the Registry,
so that you receive this important information.

ICANN reaches landmark agreement with country
domains
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
concluded its Montreal meeting last week by reaching a landmark
agreement that cements the relationship between ICANN and the worldwide
community of country-code top-level domain registries.
ICANN have decided to create a Country-Code Names Supporting Organization
(ccNSO) through a partnership with the worldwide community of registries.
The goal is to allow local, regional and global groups to have more
involvement in key decisions that affect how the Internet is run.
This is a significant step and will help to strengthen the relevance
and influence of ICANN. Previously there had been rumours of disgruntled
country code operators breaking away from ICANN and forming their
own governing body.
