.name second level is now live!
A reminder that it is now possible to register second level .name
domains e.g. johnsmith.name.
The opportunity to register at the second level under .name commenced
on on January 14th 2004 and registrations are now available on a
first-come, first-served basis from www.netnames.com
(click on the register link and select name from the drop down list).
NB. The third level .name registrations (eg. john.smith.name) have
been and will continue to be available for registration.
Domain name dispute - jrrtolkein.com
In a recent ruling by the World Intellectual Property Organisation
(WIPO), the estate of British author J.R.R. Tolkien was awarded
the rights to the domain name www.jrrtolkien.com.
The domain name had previously been registered by a Canadian company
called Alberta Hot Rods and it linked to a commercial website, Celebrity1000.
The WIPO dispute resolution arbitrator ruled that Alberta Hot Rods
had no legitimate rights or interests in the domain name.
