London-I fails to secure domain names
It has been reported in the UK press this week that Express Newspapers failed to secure key domain names before announcing the launch for the capital’s newest evening freesheet, the London-I.
Although the business name was registered and announced some time ago, key domain names were left unregistered and have subsequently been snapped up by non-related companies or individuals. This could have a serious impact on the development of the project’s online presence, which is an essential component of a newspapers marketing strategy.
This is another real life example which demonstrates the importance of incorporating domain name strategy into the overall marketing mix. Domain names form an integral part of the online brand presence and can be very important in promoting this channel to market.

The Kerry campaign has approached Mr Edwards, but have so far found his asking price, allegedly a five figure sum, too high.

Iraq denied use of their country code Top Level Domain
(ccTLD)
Despite recently regaining it’s independence; Iraq is currently unable to control the
.iq Top Level Domain (TLD), due to an ongoing legal investigation. Texan company InfoCom has up until now managed the
TLD. However, its use is currently prohibited pending the result of a trial involving the firm's technical contact who is being charged by the US for allegedly funding the terrorist organisation
Hamas.
Many Iraqi organisations and businesses have previously registered their
.iq domain names, they are currently denied an online presence due to this unusual situation.
