ICANN enlists help of Telcordia for assessment of .net
applicants
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
announced on Monday that the five candidates for management of the
.net domain from July of this year will be assessed by a team of
experts commissioned from Telcordia Technologies, Inc. At least 10
of the telecommunications provider's staff will take part in a
review process which will involve on-site visits. An international
panel of DNS experts, selected by ICANN, will complement the
Telcordia team.

New .pro offerings
A domain specifically for professional engineers, .eng.pro, will
be launched 21st February. A Sunrise period for Defensive
Registrations is currently ongoing. New .pro extensions were
recently added at the second level for lawyers (.jur.pro, .bar.pro)
and accountants (.aca.pro, .stb.pro).

.hu available to EU entities
From 1st March 2005, .hu (Hungarian) domains (including
second-level domains such as .co.hu and .org.hu) will be available
to EU entities. This will include citizens of and organisations registered in
one of the EU member
states.
A Hungarian registered trademark will no longer be necessary.

.sr domain marketed towards Seniors
.sr, the country-code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) for the republic
of Suriname, is being marketed as a 'vanity' type domain for
Seniors. NetNames is an accredited Registrar for .sr domains.
