.eu Sunrise 7th December - licensees of trademarks can only apply in Phase 1

A reminder that the first phase of the restricted Sunrise period for the forthcoming .eu domain will start on 7th December. Phase 1 is for holders of registered national or community trademarks, public bodies and holders of geographical indicators or designations of origin. If you are applying as a licensee of a trademark, please be aware that your application MUST be submitted to the Registry in PHASE 1. Licensees of trademarks will NOT be accepted in Phase 2.

Phase 2 (during which applications will also be accepted by holders of other rights protected by national law, e.g. company names, unregistered trademarks and some family names) will start 7th February.

Open registration is not expected to go live until 7th April 2006. If you believe you may qualify to make a Sunrise application, visit our specialist website www.gtld.com.

2nd-level launch of .pk (Pakistan)

The full launch of .pk at the second level (first-come, first-served) has moved to 31st December. There will however be an opportunity to introduce applications into queues, which will subsequently be randomised, from 15th December. It is therefore advisable to make your application as soon as possible, at www.netnames.com.

.fr (France) and .re (Reunion) domains opened to individuals before summer 2006

Currently individuals (as opposed to organisations) can only register 3rd-level .fr and .re domains, according to a particular, restrictive format (e.g. familyname.nom.fr). It is expected that residents of France or Reunion will be permitted to register available 2nd-level domains of their choice before summer 2006.

More details will be made available in due course.
