.mobi update - Limited Industry Sunrise

A reminder that the Limited Industry Sunrise Period for the forthcoming .mobi domain will run from 22nd to 29th May 2006. This is an opportunity for members of mobile industry trade associations (CTIA, CWTA, GSMA, MEF, MMA) to register their trademarks in .mobi.

A second sunrise for trademark holders will follow from 12th June to 21st August.

The motivation behind .mobi is to create web content specifically designed for delivery to mobile devices. Guidelines from the registry will encourage owners to tailor their websites towards mobile users, meaning that far more web content will be made available through mobile phones and other similar applications.

Defensive registration of .mobi is also possible, however. If you are interested in learning more about the new .mobi domain, please contact your Platinum Service Account Manager or call NetNames on +44 (0)870 458 9400.

Upcoming shows

INTA

NetNames will once again be exhibiting at this year's 128th annual meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA), which runs from 6th to 10th May at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada. .travel update

The Travel Partnership Corporation (TTPC), the non-profit body responsible for developing domain name eligibility policies for the .travel domain, has recommended the inclusion of two new sectors to the list of travel industry entities eligible to hold such domain names - travel insurance businesses and travel training institutions. Both are now being considered, pending a 60-day review of public comments.

Also, any place names (e.g. cities, towns, heritage sites, sacred sites, national parks) that had previously been reserved but have not subsequently been registered by 30th April, will be released for general registration by those travel and tourism entities that are eligible to hold those names.

For more info on .travel and to register, please visit NetNames' specialist domain site, www.gtld.com.
