.mobi Trademark Sunrise reminder

A reminder that the .mobi Trademark Sunrise period has started and will run until 21 August. Thousands of .mobi domains have already been registered. Protect your brands in the new suffix for the Mobile Internet now, at www.gltd.com.

Liberalisation of .fr domain

From 20 June 2006 the .fr registry will be allowing all individuals 18 or over, with a postal address in France, to register any available domains they want ending in .fr. Until now, only professionals, associations or public bodies have been able to register .fr.

The domain will not need to correspond in any way to the name of the proposed legal registrant. The administrative contact must be based in France, having an address where they can receive legal and other documents. NetNames can fulfil the role of administrative contact if required.

NetNames now expects a great deal of cybersquatting within the .fr domain, and recommends that trademark owners who have not yet secured their brands in .fr do so now.

In order to register .fr, visit www.netnames.com now.

Activation of .vn at second level

Below is the updated schedule of the long-awaited launch of .vn - the dates refer to when successfully registered second-level domains from each different category go live:

1 June (2006)  - Applications from Vietnamese trademark holders (are therefore active now)
15 June  - Applications from non-Vietnamese trademark holders
1 July  - Applications from those who pre-registered
  4 July  - Open to public - first-come, first-served

In order to register .vn, visit www.netnames.com now.
